The Return Of The Pony Tail…

Sporty, practical, and goody-goody by nature, the ponytail couldn’t be less European. Yet at the London, Paris and Milan collections, the style kept cropping up. Here’s how the fashion capitals interpreted – or in some cases – subverted it:

Spring/Summer Fashion Weeks 2011, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Emanuel Ungaro..

Keeping with the hair trends at Paris Fashion Week, Lebanese fashion designer George Chakra also showed his S/S 2011 collection during the week. His runway models rocked the 1960′s voluminous and exaggerated high Ponytails, pulled off the face, nicely complementing the designs and vision of the designer.

Earn your stripes…

With the official start of Spring this week, it seems that we can finally start to wear the new season looks that swept the S/S 2011 runways back in September. One of the most notable trends this season will undoubtably be stripes; many a designer showed horizontal bands in red, blue and white for a fresh take on the nautical theme.

Stripes were paired down and elegant at Isabel Marant

while Moschino offered up a bold, graphic take on the trend, pairing stripes with bright pops of primary colours and playful polka-dots

The Moschino S/S 2011 advertising campaign was an ode to the Ancient Mariner

and we saw French Riviera chic at Maxmara

Style queen Sienna Miller has been spotted about town wearing this red striped jumper, just £40 from Topshop…

…and the trend continues to blaze a trail through high-street stores and boutiques everywhere

Ann-Sofie Back for Topshop £50

Kain at netaporter.com £90

H&M £3.99

It is the end of a very glittering era.

Sadly the wonderful, charismatic, beautiful Dame Elizabeth Taylor has passed away due to heart failure. Her son said ”My mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love. Though her loss is devastating to those of us who held her so close and so dear, we will always be inspired by her enduring contribution to our world.”

She is not only an actress but beauty icon, here are a few of her most memorable moments.

Claudia Pink Jewellery

Enter the Aladdin’s Cave in Liverpool.

This jeweller started out in Quiggins and was loved by all ages and all types. Just stepping into the shop felt very mystical and empowering.  Her jewellery has been mentioned a lot around Liverpool with a big buzz among celebrities. I shopped there a lot finding some good bargains of one off hand made pieces and would highly recommend it! You can find anything in there from bangles to beautiful little headpieces!

Try it for yourself! She can be found in the Metquarter in Liverpool or….

A Royal Wedding…

As the wedding of the century draws ever closer, and the world’s rumour mills run into chaotic overdrive, the question on everybody’s lips: what will Kate Middleton wear down the aisle on April 29th?

Speculation is rife that the future Queen has already chosen British label Alexander McQueen for her big day.. stories that have, of course, been laughed off by current McQueen designer, Sarah Burton.

The last dress of the Alexander McQueen A/W 2011 show… and possible wedding dress for Kate Middleton?

Yes, it would be so incredible; imagine the gasps if layer upon layer of outrageously beautiful hand-pleated chiffon were to come floating past the crowds at Westminster Abbey…

Yet can we truly believe that the ultimate Sloane Princess would pick such an avant-garde designer to represent her on possibly the most important day of her life? Sadly, I cannot. Judging by Kate’s most recent public outfits, which have been unsurprisingly bland, it seems more likely that we will be inundated with photographs of something classic, demure, highly appropriate and probably a tad stuffy too.

But who knows, I may be surprised… I certainly hope so!

Milan Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2011

The spotlight on the final days of Milan Fashion Week was inevitably to be dimmed and darkened by the tumultuous fallout of John Galliano’s recent actions – see Fashion News for the full story – but drunken, anti-Semitic rants aside, the Italian capital had multitudes in the way of drama and spectacle.

While it is true that New York has its classicism, London its quirkiness and Paris a beautiful, sophisticated edge, I cannot help but favour the sheer unadulterated and unashamed glamour that comes from Milan. This season’s collections did nothing to disappoint.

These are just a few favourites; head over to www.style.com for full coverage of everything else:
