This season the 70s rules. From the midi-length chiffon skirts du jour, to the sudden revival of the wide legged trouser, it seems the fashion world has whole heartedly embraced this period in history…right down to the very last floppy brimmed hat.

It’s hard to envisage the 70s without immediately thinking Bianca Jagger. Wife of Rolling Stones frontman Mick and true icon of the decade, Bianca not only encapsulated 70s style, but also played her part in creating it.
Both Mick and Bianca were at the opening of the now legendary disco, Studio 54, along with hordes of celebrities such as Liza Minelli, Halston, Brooke Shields and Michael Jackson. Just a month later, Bianca chose to host her 30th birthday at the club, famously entering on a white horse to possibly one of the most chic and fabulous parties of all time.

A great part of Jagger’s style was its fluidity; long, silk dresses, many of them halterneck or split to the navel, mixed with sexy, draping wide-legged trouser suits. And of course; THAT wedding dress
Her style was emulated everywhere on the Spring/Summer 2011 catwalks, whether glamourous and colourful at Marc Jacobs…
sexy, printed and sheer at Emilio Pucci…
or paired down and chic Derek Lam…
And who are the modern icons for this trend? Well, the white-shirt-denim-flares look has been seen on many a Hollywood star — wide legged, high waisted trousers being the most universally flattering incarnation of the decade. The best, though, for sheer understated glamour, must go to the ultimate Yummy Mummy Elle MacPherson, who rocks the “just got out of bed” 70s icon look with unbeatable flare!
